Hello all!

I am mega pleased to announce that the two talented and very lovely ladies behind bridal dress design company Hazaar of London are hosting a bridal pop up shop on the New King’s Road in London from the 3rd to the 7th April.

I’ve been a huge fan of Hazaar since meeting them at a bridal trade show and love their stunning and versatile designs. Famous for their wedding dresses that will take you from ceremony to evening reception with two looks in one, this pop up boutique is a fantastic way to get to know which designs will suit you best. Being able to mix and match shorter style dresses with your favourite skirts gives you the luxury of almost tailor making your wedding dress as well as taking away the stress of finding a second evening outfit. They will also be showcasing their first designs that they couldn’t bear to separate, the new designs were meant to be made as a whole gown and you will have the first chance to try them on at this event!

/feed/ruby_ophelia_wedding_dress.jpeg

This pop up shop event is a great opportunity to not only try out several style of dress and find the best combination to suit you and your day, it also gives you the opportunity to pick Rachel and Issy’s creative brains! They can show you which pieces match the best and the ones that will suit your shape, as well as all this the fabulous shoes by Rachel Simpson will be available for you to try with your outfits as well as intricate wedding accessories by Corrine Smith Design. The venue will be expertly decorated by Nerissa Eve who will also be on hand to help you with ideas for decoration at your own wedding venue.  Not to mention all the cake and bubbles!

Ever found yourself dreaming of spending more time creating beautiful things and less time behind a desk?

Passionate about transforming original vintage into something contemporary and useable, the mother and daughter team behind Daisies Blue had the same thought and decided to do something about it.

Creating gifts and homewares from carefully sourced antiques and collectibles as well as handcrafting objects and decorations, Daisies Blue was set up by Gemma and her mum to breathe life into unused items. Gemma studied Fashion and Textile Design at the University of Leeds, after which she became a designer and teacher.

Gemma on what inspires her…

I am a designer, teacher and perfectionist. I have a background rooted in design and I take inspiration from the simplicity and beauty of everyday objects, however my true love is for vintage ephemera. I love nothing more than rummaging in antique shops, bazaars and markets to collect vintage items and surround myself with all things beautiful.

Daisies Blue Grande Poppy & Primrose Doily Bunting

The duo specialise in the traditional technique of crocheting and hand made doilies hold a special place in the heart of this family.

/feed/Daisies_Blue_Grande_Cherry_Blossom_Doily_Bunting.jpeg

Gemma explains…

Our creative designs are inspired by antique styles from the past and incorporate the traditional technique of crochet. Hand crocheted doilies have a large place in our hearts and are lovingly rooted in our family history, which is why they are now at the centre of everything we do.

Every intricate crochet doily and piece of antique lace has its own individual history and story; this adds an intriguing touch of mystery and nostalgia to our designs which is irreplaceable.

When I was a kid, I would have loved this!

The Flower Fashion is owned and run by Natasha who has worked in Russia (where she is from), Lithuania and Holland on her designs before settling here in London and setting up shop. A florist with a unique edge, branded a floral atelier which houses progressive designs.

/feed/orchid_flower_wedding_bouquet.jpeg

Natasha runs workshops teaching flower arranging to children at the restaurant, Mari Vanna in Knightsbridge. Designed to be educational, fun and creative these classes also have a great ethos, as Natasha explains…

The workshop is designed to encourage the children to explore their senses and develop their hand and eye co-ordination. All master classes are individual and prepared carefully.

Flowers have no religion, no race and no class. We promise to teach every child to speak, feel and create with flowers, each class is a great success and we are always fully booked. The children seem to take it very seriously and treat the flowers with such gentle care!

/feed/childrens_flower_workshop.jpeg /feed/childrens_flower_workshop.jpeg /feed/childrens_flower_workshop.jpeg /feed/childrens_flower_workshop.jpeg /feed/childrens_flower_workshop.jpeg /feed/childrens_flower_workshop.jpeg

The Flower Fashion studio has a great many services besides the childrens workshops which include wedding flowers, occasions and even offer a gardening service. Priding herself on offering something different, Natasha offers designs as unique as her clients and venues. From Baroque to Modern and with influences from Japan to Marrakesh, Natasha says,

I believe that flowers should speak for themselves. This area of art is so full of mystery and beauty! As long as it is in harmony, measure and taste combined together-I know I’m on the right track.

This is not the first time…and probably not the last, that I have completely missed Valentines Day!

Something very special happened this year though. My dresses were featured on one of the biggest wedding blogs in the UK, Rock n Roll Bride! I was approached by the fab photographer Sarah London who was organising a Valentines inspired shoot and wanted to use my dresses as alternative wedding dresses. I was over the moon that she had thought of me after crossing paths at a few wedding fairs.

After turning up on my front door step and bundling my dresses in her boot, she was off! All I knew was that it would be shot on a farm and it would be freezing! Sarah had managed to get some great suppliers in the wedding industry together and knew that they would come up with something rather spectacular. I waited with baited breath to see the result.

I was blown away by the images! Everyone had clearly worked really hard to pull this shoot together and the model looked stunning in my dresses! Styled shoots are there to show you what your chosen wedding suppliers can do with a little imagination and know how, so if you’ve ever thought “I can do that”, just be aware of all the hours spent searching for props, all the training to do hair and make-up, all the skill it takes to make beautiful and well made accessories and the clever skill and artistry it takes to capture it all on film. Sit back, take a breather and get the professionals in to style your day, cos then it just might turn out a little like this.

So here it is, A Very Late Valentine to you all…

When making a statement of love on your wedding day, why not make it perfectly obvious by using giant letters to declare it!

Love letters are a fab way of decorating your venue, cake or marquee. They can be neon, decorated with circus lights, popping colours or chic and minimalist. If you love the idea of a circus themed wedding then you can’t go wrong with Carnival Letters who are based in California but if you prefer something a bit more glittery try the chic letters from A Pocketful Of Dreams here in the UK.

The beauty of these love letter signs is that you don’t need much else around it, if anything, for extra decoration so even though they can be quite pricey. They can end up saving you money!

Here are some of the best I have found…

Are you thinking of having an Art Deco styled wedding day but are a bit daunted on how to go about it?

I’ve been scouring the internet finding exquisite accessories to give your day a roaring twenties feel without going overboard. Art Deco accents are sophisticated and subtle, using muted greys, creams and pearl you can create a 1920s look that is timeless and elegant.

Gorgeous ostrich feathers, beading and statement head pieces are the best touches to make your outfit really WOW when you make your big entrance. Stationery, your maids and your man all get a look in here too. Keep the rest of your day 1920s friendly by choosing great items like champagne saucers instead of the traditional long styles, create Art Deco angles with your wedding cake and think about how your flowers compliment the day. Huge white flower trailing bouquets are quintessentially twenties but keep it up to date with your floral arrangements by choosing all white or just two colour arrangements. Black centred peonies are a popular choice for this decade as are roses in creams and pale blush tones.

If you are brave and want to go full on theme, then top hat and tails or a blush pink suit for your chap would be an awesome added extra!

The Golden Globes are my guilty pleasure along with all the other glitzy glamorous and downright embarrassing award ceremonies.

The Golden Globes 2014 is no exception and to add to the embarrassment they have pushed the tables so close together that it takes an absolute age for the celebs to reach the stage. When they do they are either totally overwhelmed they just ramble nonsense, have waited so long in their career to actually win something they can’t speak at all or are movie making veterans and thank a load of people that we’ve never heard of.

My guilty pleasure is of course getting to gawp at all the hoi polloi in their finery, and of course keep an eye out for some wedding style inspiration! My particular favourites this year were Emma Watson wearing a Dior backless dress and cropped trousers, Caitlin Fitzgerald in a gorgeous sky blue Emilia Wickstead gown from her Spring 2014 collection and Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren. A special mention too for Elizabeth Moss who wore a sexy J.Mendel frock that I would wear to almost every special occasion!

Aside from the frocks that I would wear, there was also a great range of dresses that would make great wedding dresses…

Happy New Year to you all! After the long festive break I know all you brides to be are chomping at the bit looking forward to planning for your upcoming nuptials!

Dusting off the cobwebs after hibernating for the winter wedding trends for this season sees a return to some past season colour favourites such as the pastel trend making a comeback. The catwalks in New York, Paris and London were in full muted swing and my favourite 1950s style circle skirts are hot styles to go for in these bubblegum colours. Scarily though a new cropped top is all the rage, so if you have a wash board stomach it’s time to throw off your winter jumpers and get it out!

Here are some gorgeous bridal gowns in the style of 1950s tea dresses. The ‘tea length’ of the skirt is essential for this seasons trend, its quite specific, being midway between midi and maxi! Basically if it skims your heels, you’re heading in the right direction!

If like me you have been feasting on chocolate and mince pies all Christmas, the cropped style may not be for you. Don’t fear! The buttoned up collar blouse is our saviour. With embellished collars and floaty fabrics, they will hide a multitude of sins while being pretty and feminine. Try this one from Ruche

Ruche-pastel-embellished-collar-blouse

Now, having been born at the beginning of the 80s I find it a little disturbing that my teenage wardrobe is now ‘back in fashion’. Yes, the 1990s are officially making a comeback and the wedding world is not safe! Forget the frou frou gowns influenced by the end of the 1980s though, I’m talking more of your simple shift dress. Beautiful lines with no room for underwear, this style is unforgiving for ladies with any sort of shapely figure and a massive no no for anyone with size C cup or above. I do love this style though and am envious of anyone who can pull it off, Vera Wang has created a beautiful collection of gowns in this style and for the rest of us, the Princess style gown will do nicely.

Hello all!

I have recently stumbled across two very talented sisters and their beautiful venue styling company Boris & Betty. This talented duo can help with all your styling needs and you don’t need to break the bank enlisting their help either. Offering packages to suit your budget, ideas to blow your mind and organisational skills that would impress even Alan Sugar, you can be sure you and your venue are in safe hands!

I recently spoke to one half of the B&B ladies, Shelley, who kindly answered a few questions that all you brides-to-be would certainly ask…

Hi Shelley,

Can you tell me more about why Boris and Betty was created?

I started off my career organising and planning events, alongside satisfying my creative urge by studying interior design, while Sheena focused her creative energy on studying Fashion. Being the magpies that we are and with our mutual love for collecting vintage treasures becoming larger than life, we began helping close friends and family style their special occasions. Responses from both guests and suppliers have been overwhelming and we just love putting our creative talents to good use, so as a natural progression our baby Boris and Betty was born.

Is it all fun working with your sister? Do you have similar tastes or does it work better that you are very different?

My sister is the best partner. We’re really close which means we’re always completely open and honest with one another which makes for a good business foundation. We both have our own unique style which works well when combining our ideas, although Sheena is mostly behind the conceptual design and styling. Her natural interest in learning about new and exciting styling trends keeps our work eclectic and original. I think the reason why Boris and Betty works well for us is down to the dynamics. I deal with the nitty gritty business side of things such as marketing, PR, communications and event organising, whilst the creativity that a wedding styling business needs to succeed, is covered more by Sheena.

Where does the name come from?

Sheena acquired two quirky wooden lovebirds that have pride of place in her family sitting room. They needed a name and this job was given to her 3 year old son who was very excited at this. He named them Boris and Betty. The lovebirds have become quite the famous pair within our family network and even more so now we have named our business in commemoration of them.

How would you describe B&B’s style? What style of day are clients looking for that come to you?

Boris and Betty’s style is unique and individual for each and every bride. We’re so lucky that our brides come to us with very different ideas so our styling is always new and exciting and we have great fun interpreting brides’ concepts and bringing them to life. Our love for all things vintage, quirky and chic helps to give the Boris and Betty styling makeover a distinct look. We’ll do nothing less than make our bride and grooms special day look amazingly gorgeous.

/feed/woodland_table_decoration.jpeg /feed/owl_table_decoration.jpeg /feed/woodland_wedding_table_decoration.jpeg/feed/tree_table_centre_wedding_decoration.jpeg /feed/owl_tree_woodland_wedding_theme.jpeg

What kind of things can you help with to take the pressure off someone planning an event?

Boris and Betty will do all the hard work of researching, styling and liaising or meeting with suppliers (upon request) to ensure every detail fits with our style for the clients theme. We work really hard behind the scenes to ensure every client’s wedding is styled beautifully, yet stress free, meaning our brides and grooms can just enjoy being engaged and look forward to their special day.

Do you provide individual packages i.e. china hire as well as a whole event organising package?

As all our stock represents us and the Boris and Betty brand, we don’t individually hire out our stock. Our clients book the Boris and Betty styling expertise alongside our treasures for their wedding. This way we can ensure our pretty items are used to make the best of their beauty. However, we do offer packages where we can style weddings using clients own items of stock or offer advice on how to piece the decor together, without the expense of a full wedding styling service.

What kind of prices do you charge for a whole event?

Our services are completely bespoke and the price all depends on our bride’s requirements and budget. So no two quotes are ever the same. Our prices reflect the theme / styling and can include extra special little touches or additional décor hire.

If you don’t have a certain prop in stock, would you be able to source it?

As our services are bespoke to individual clients, we regularly have to source particular items to suit a theme. This to us is just an extra excuse to hunt for more little treasures!

Do you have any insights into what trends are popular now and which will be popular for 2014/15?

Due to the popularity of the Great Gatsby film and the series Downton Abbey, the elegant and graceful 1920’s styling within weddings is still going strong, and this should carry on swinging through to 2014. We should also start to see colour pop into bridal trends for 2014/15. Think Rainbow bright of canary yellow, fuchsia, and bright blue as small bursts of colour within the day, especially within the floral design for a quirky and fun festival vibe.

Could you tell me a bit more about your backgrounds in styling, design and marketing and how you utilise it in your joint venture?

We use our best attributes to our advantage. I am a methodical organiser and use the skills I have acquired within my events organising and marketing career to manage my time efficiently, ensuring all our events run smoothly. My interior styling skills are a great benefit as it’s important to create a good balance within event decor of texture, shape and colour and to have a good knowledge of spatial awareness to use space effectively. Sheena uses her fashion creativity to produce breath-taking style boards that are used to visualise our clients’ initial ideas and see the concept through to on the day styling. Fashion, interior and social trends have a huge influence on wedding inspiration. We use our design knowledge to keep a close eye on these changing influences and this helps Boris and Betty to keep one step ahead so that our styling ideas are fresh and relevant.
