My first feature to come out of the wedding suppliers networking event I attended last week is about Louise O’Mahoney aka Oh My Honey! (which I’ve just realised is a play on her name! Clever).

This stunning lady hand makes the most wonderful 50s inspired dresses, spot on for bridesmaids or that special occasion and has a range of wedding dresses too! With a passion for all vintage clothing, Louise has a particular love for the gorgeous shapes in 1950s tailoring, the nipped in waists and stunning full circle skirts are uber flattering on all shapes and sizes and are the perfect style for the ultimate in party dresses. Having started out in 2009, Oh My Honey! now sells out worldwide and has a team of highly skilled seamstresses on board to make off the peg and bespoke designs.

The wedding dress collection was added in 2011 specifically for the 1950s loving bride to be and dresses come in a variety of styles from the trademark 50s full circle skirted designs with sweetheart or high slash necks to full length ballgowns. There is a twist to Louise’s designs…if you look again at the dresses you will see something a little different, she has designed a wonderful addition to the sweetheart neckline by adding wings to the bodice! This little touch really makes the dress stand out and is a fabulous little nod to the ‘hot rod’ styles of the same era, wings or flames were often added to cars and accessories such as sunglasses to give a tougher edge to the normally cutie pie 50s image.

Another brilliant addition to one of the skirts is a dipped hem at the rear, giving a wonderful mini train that I’ve never seen before on a dress of this type! ‘Laura’ being the name of this particular dress also come with a specially made petticoat by Petticoats a Plenty that suits this style magnificently and gives it a fantastic voluptuous look! A real stunner!

Using sumptuous fabrics such as matte duchess satin, organza and 100% silk dupion these dresses are luxurious and comfortable and being handmade to order you can make little changes to the designs and use of fabrics depending on your shape and personal style. Be warned some dresses take only two weeks to make but most of the wedding dresses take six, so make sure you order yours in plenty of time! In addition to this the ‘Peggy’ dress is so popular that there is a month long waiting list on top of the making time so if you prefer its straight skirted style you had better order it now!!!

One of my favourites (it was a hard choice!) is Florence. With its dipped hem at the rear giving it a train and it also comes complete with a beautiful full petticoat to give it a swan like shape, the petticoat is dyed to fade from ivory to pink, but if this isn’t your colour of choice why not customise it? How about dove grey to charcoal or sky blue to cobalt????

Bridesmaid dresses come in all colours of the rainbow! They come as plain circle dresses so you can accessories them or leave them as they are in all their colour popping glory to speak for themselves. Great for matching your maids or having one of each colour so you can be surrounded by your very own lady rainbow! There are also tons of vintage prints to choose from if you would prefer to have a particular motif tying the maids together or would prefer more muted tones compared to those of the plain dresses. Dresses start at as little as £85 and petticoats are available to buy separately on the website too.
